Given our fast-paced world, it is typical for people of all ages to experience stressful life events throughout their lifespan. Finding ways to decrease stress is paramount to remaining healthy. Therapy involves learning to increase your insight and awareness in all aspects of your life, including recognizing stressors. Treatment interventions often involve reducing stressful symptoms as well as learning to cope in healthier ways. Therapy will also provide an opportunity for a person to identify their unmet needs, improve communication patterns and make changes that lead to a more fulfilling lifestyle.

Therapy is a great way to improve your mental health. You can expect to be greeted by a professional who demonstrates genuine, empathetic regard, respect, and compassion for your information. You can expect your information remains private (with the exception of the mandatory reporting laws around safety). Therapy may help you reach goals, increase insight/awareness about yourself, highlight patterns of maladaptive behaviour, and improve listening and communication skills. Therapy can provide you with hope, relief, and a plan for remediation.

Psychologists can provide valued insight regarding human development. In childhood, behaviour is a form of communication that is easily judged and misinterpreted. Therapy is an opportunity to learn how to better interpret your child’s behaviour for the purpose of meeting their needs and assisting them in healthier ways to express their needs. This approach will result in a much more positive and connected parenting experience as you journey through the lifespan development of childhood and adolescence with your child.

Psychologists respect and value their clients’ right to privacy. As such, all Psychologists must adhere to the various legislature and ethical guidelines to maintain your privacy and confidentiality. All records are confidential and your information cannot be released without your informed consent, except under the following conditions:

If we have evidence to believe you could be a danger to yourself/others.

If we suspect your child or any child (less than 16 y.o.) is being abused/neglected, we must make a mandatory report to The Children's Aid Society.

If we suspect an elderly person in a long-term care facility is being abused or neglected, we must make a mandatory report to the Director of Nursing within the Ministry of Long-Term Care.

If you have been sexually abused by a regulated health care practitioner, while in a health care relationship, we must notify the practitioner's professional college (your name would not be included without your permission).

If we or our records are subpoenaed by a court of law.

If you are declared a Missing Person and the police request information that could be helpful to them, we must cooperate accordingly.
